  • Regular Verbs are verbs which follow the standard rule of adding either 'ed' or 'd' to the verb to form their past tense & past participle.

    Examples:

    Verb  Past Tense   Past Participle 
    play played played
    dance danced danced
     believe  believed believed
    walk  walked walked
     end ended  ended 

  • Irregular Verbs are verbs which don’t follow any standard rule to form their past tense & past participle.

    Examples:

    Verb  Past Tense   Past Participle 
    run ran run
    give gave given
     awake  awoke awaken
    buy  bought bought
     fall fell fallen
     cut cut  cut 

  • Regular & irregular verbs are important for:

    1. Forming correct past tenses.
    2. Forming correct tenses, right past participle should be used.
    3. Correct communication.
    4. Grammatically correct English.

    Hence, proper knowledge of regular & irregular verbs is required for grammatically correct sentences and communicating effectively.
